Troi Serial Plug-in gives FileMaker Pro the ability to read from and write to the serial ports of the computer directly from within FileMaker Pro without the need of a separate application. And it works completely cross-platform!
List of new features of version 3.1
Troi Serial Plug-in 3.1 is a maintenance release and has these main improvements:
- Made compatible with FileMaker Pro 10.
- Added new Serial_VersionAutoUpdate function. The Serial_VersionAutoUpdate function is part of an emerging standard for FileMaker plug-ins of third party vendors of plug-ins. The version number is returned in the format aabbccdd where every letter represents a digit of the level, so versions can be easily compared.
- Fixed a bug in the Serial_SetDispatchScript function, where it would not work when you specified a portname.
- Troi Serial plug-in is now compatible to run under FileMaker Server as a server-side plug-in.
- Fixed typos and syntax error in the documentation and example files.
Key features of the Troi Serial Plug-in are:
- FileMake native script triggering, to get incoming data into the database.
- "Serial_Control" function to temporarily suspend the incoming data stream and resume it when you are interested in the data.
- "Wait for Match" function to wait for a specific character string before triggering.
- The possibility to open an unlimited number of serial ports and to trigger different scripts for different ports.
- Support for high speed connections up to 230 Kbps.
- Buffering of data up to 64k per port.
- Clear example databases and a user manual to get started quickly.

The plug-in works with all types of serial ports including those added through an extension card of USB to Serial adaptor. Troi Serial plug-in runs on any machine that is able to run FileMaker Pro 7.0 or higher. You can also include the plug-in with runtimes made with FileMaker Pro Advanced.

With Troi Serial you can connect to multiple
serial ports and read and write data to
them all directly from FileMaker! Since the beta
we fixed some bugs, and significantly improved the
speed of triggering scripts.
For FileMaker Pro 10
Troi Serial Plug-in 3 was completely rewritten to
be FileMaker Pro 7 native, allowing it to
make use of the advanced possibilities, like multiple,
self-explanatory parameters and support for Unicode. Troi Serial
Plug-in runs natively with FileMaker Pro 10 and
FileMaker Advanced 10, but also with FileMaker Pro
8 and FileMaker Pro 9. The Mac OS
X version is a Universal plug-in which runs
natively on PowerPC and Intel Macs. (it also
still runs on Windows). For those users who
are still working with FileMaker 5 through 6,
we offer a classic Troi Serial Plug-in version
2.6.
Easy troubleshooting!
Troi Serial Plug-in still has
a great debug function, making setup of databases
a breeze for our users. You can now
troubleshoot by testing the arrival of data at
the serial port and you can test script
triggering too.
No more quitting
Troi Serial Plug-in
3 can be reinitialized without quitting FileMaker Pro.
This makes it possible to accommodate new or
different serial ports dynamically, for example when you
plug in a USB serial adapter.

Another powerful feature is getting the last
match string (for example the last line) that
was received. And you can now change the
separator between parameters. This is useful for Japanese
systems, where port names contain the pipe character.
